George Clooney Advert Analysis

Image:
  • The image is very basic and plain, no gimmicks to the overall image. It shows George in a striped down way, therefore bringing the focus to the watch which he is wearing. It suggests that the watch is worth buying as the rich and famous wear it. But it also shows it in it's most basic form suggesting it is not a miracle worker, your life won't suddenly change, but it will help enhance your look and make you look slick and classy.
  • The large image of the watch allows the user to see exactly what they are buying into, there are no gimmicks, it is straight in what it is trying to sell.
  • George is looking into the audiences eyes, bringing a connection to them, it entices them into the advert and what it is selling.
Colour:
  • The dark greys and silvers suggest a slick and modern life. It suggests that the ideal user for this product is a modern, up to speed person who is slick. But it also suggests that the watch adds this to the user, it gives them something to buy into. The colour appeals to the audience making them buy into the product and what it has to offer.
Body Language:
  • George is in a relaxed position and showing there is nothing to hide. It is very casual giving the idea that the watch is for those who lead a relaxed and calm life whilst having class.
Costume:
  • Casual white shirt and jeans with watch. Slick but informal, shows watch can go with anything and enhances the user and what they are wearing shows class. It shows the watch compliments the users looks and isn't for those who wear smart clothes, it is a watch which goes with everything.
  • The white shirt may represent purity as it is clear and has nothing to hide, which emphasises what the watch is and it's role. It is a pure and clear watch with no gimmicks attached to it, it does what is says on the tin.
Typography:
  • The font is Sans-Serif. It creates a sense of informality as the font is more curved, but it is still classy and catches the eye of the audience.
  • It gives the idea that by having this watch you will enter a more modern and classy life, it gives the user something to buy into.
  • The font creates something that people can relate too, it is not a formal watch but it still creates the sense of having some class, it allows those who may not be a from a wealthy background feel included in the fact the watch has the possibility to fit with any class.
Mode of address and Language:
  • "George Clooney's Choice" is an declarative. It is a statement to the reader, it informs them on what George likes, but it also indirectly advises them to buy the product. By using the actors name it gives the impression that it is a good product to have as the rich and famous have it. It also suggests that as George has it you to will become like him as he is a successful man and only has quality goods.
  • The statement is indirect as it is a general statement towards the audience. The effect of this is it appeals to a wide audience. As girlfriends will buy it as they will want their boyfriends to be like George Clooney and boys will buy it as they look up to George as a role model as he has achieved a lot in in his lifetime.
  • "OMEGA" is declarative as it showing the audience what the company is. It shows them that they are reputable and are to be trusted, the fact they have George Clooney strengthens the company.
Effect:
  • Good advert as it gives a clear message and image of the watch as something that can appeal to everyone and everyone can use. Also the image of George Clooney suggest that the watch enhances a persons looks. What he is wearing is simple but by wearing the watch he looks slick.
  • The advert gives something for the user to buy into.
